John Weldon Make-a-Wish Fundraiser

John Weldon Elementary is excited to partner with Make-A-Wish Missouri and participates in their Kids For Wish Kids program.  As part of the program, we will be rallying around wish kid JW. JW's wish is to go to Legoland!

At the beginning of 2014, JW, who was 4 at the time, was diagnosed with Neuroblastoma. After having gone through Chemotherapy, Stem Cell Replacement, surgery to remove the cancerous tumor and weeks of being in the hospital JW was diagnosed as cancer free!

JW was finally able to get back to camping and playing with his brother Jacob and doing what 4-year-old boys like to do. He started kindergarten and was ready to head off to 1st grade in the fall. At the time of his cancer free diagnosis, JW was put on a study involving routine blood tests, scans, and daily medications.  At the first of July, JW had two tests that came back elevated and the doctors wanted him to come back in for additional scans and lab work.  On July 14th, JW was re-diagnosed with Neuroblastoma.

The cancer had come back in JW's bone marrow and almost immediately his Mom and Dad were told that the treatment regimen for this round was going to be much different than the previous. The doctors wanted to do Metaiodobenzylguanidine Therapy (MIBG). This is a compound that is combined with a radioactive iodine used to deliver a targeted radiation therapy and is many times used for patients with Neuroblastoma.  JW is a strong little boy that is having to fight a fight that no 6-year-old should ever have to do once let alone twice.

JW loves superheroes and legos.  He is excited about his wish to go to Legoland! We appreciate you partnering with John Weldon Elementary School and Make-A-Wish to help support JW's wish and wish kids like him by granting them their one true wish.
