As you have noticed, for the past few weeks we have been reviewing all the sight words we have learned this year. The kindergarten teachers are now assessing the children on their knowledge of these words. Please practice the sight words daily with your child if he/she has not yet mastered all of them. A sight word list is attached to this week's newsletter for your convenience.

Buy 1, Get 1 Free Book Fair
Today through Wednesday, May 8-10, our JW Book Fair will run a special promotion for all of you readers! If you would like to make a purchase, please remember to send in all funds in a labeled envelope with first and last name, and the words “Book Fair” on the front. Students who bring money will be allowed to shop at the book fair.

2017-2018 JW Leadership Shirt Sales

Be sure to return your order for next year’s JW Leadership shirt! Return form and payment in your child’s binder. Orders are due by Friday, May 12. If you are ordering for multiple children, please remember to fill out separate forms for each child. Shirts can be picked up at next year’s “Meet the Teacher” Night in August! Thank you!

 

Field Day Fun

This Friday is our annual JW all school Field Day. Much time and preparation has gone into making this day super fun and successful for all! Please be sure to wear your “Team Kindergarten” t-shirt, shorts, and tennis shoes. Bring a labeled water bottle, wear a hat if you choose, apply sunscreen before coming to school, and bring extra sunscreen in your backpack (just in case). Most importantly, be ready for a day of FUN!

We send a special, giant “THANK YOU” to all the parent volunteers who are helping out on Friday! We couldn’t do it without you!

 

Kindergarten Celebrations

Next Monday through Wednesday, our students will enjoy many fun activities with all of their kindergarten friends as they create long-lasting memories of our times together! We look forward to wrapping up our year with tons of fun!
Below is a list of our anticipated fun! 

May 15:  Outdoor Fun in the Sun

May 16:  Indoor Summer Creations and Crafts
-S’more Summer Fun—make a craft
-Watermelon—make a craft

-Beach Ball Blast—make a craft and signing of beach ball crafts

May 17:  Teddy Bear Times
-Teddy Bear Craft    
-Teddy Bear Picnic Mat

-Teddy Bear Story
-Teddy Bear Picnic:  Students will bring a favorite stuffed animal, book, snack and drink, and a beach towel to sit on.

 

JWE Night at the Cardinals Game- July 29

Come support John Weldon Elementary and the

St. Louis Cardinals when the Cardinals play the Diamondbacks on Saturday, July 29, 2017 at 6:15PM. After the game, it’s Fireworks Night at Busch Stadium! Tickets are only $18/each. We will be cheering from the Left Field Pavilion!

In addition, current third and fourth grade students (next year's fourth and fifth grade students) are invited to sing the National Anthem before the game begins! This is a great way to test out being in choir!

If you and your family would like to attend and/or participate, please request and complete an order form and return it to Mrs. Vahle by May 8. Thank you!

Lost and Found
Our “Lost and Found” is overflowing!
Parents, if your child has lost some clothing or other items this year, please take a moment to come up to school and go through the things in the Lost and Found. It is located next to the cafeteria. Any items that are not claimed will be donated to charity at the end of the year.
